Abstract

My research work, inserted into the Research Project of the Dictionary
of Science and Technology in the Renaissance, led by Ph.D. María
Jesús Mancho Duque, culminated in the completion of my first-degree
dissertation entitled Study of the vocabulary of textiles and tailoring in the
Renaissance. The extent and exhaustivity of this study convinced us that
we would get little profitability if we continued researching on this area in
the Doctoral Thesis. We, therefore, decided to aim our work towards the
field of fortifaction a very different subject, but also very interesting, rich
and innovative during the Renaissance. Since this area of knowledge has
been little studied lexicographically with the philological rigour necessary,
we believe the results to be achieved will be extremely valuable, especially
if we consider that fortification is part of our heritage and should, therefore,
be preserved and studied.
