Abstract

The study of goods inventories from the Castilian rural sphere
introduces us to term variations and meanings which are not always registered
in dictionaries such as morrión, piértigo, iniesta, pinaza or grillos ‘grilletes’.
In this paper, as well as analysing and contrasting the most relevant
terms, we propose to comment on the difficulties caused by abbreviations
and their marks when specifying and interpreting terms related to
tools and implements of the agricultural world (ç: celemines, ssa: sembradura), above all when the meaning is not documented as in the case
of cañiço. Whilst examples such as ervilleta can be considered to be variations
of documented terms, cases such as gazapunos lead to doubt and
make interpretation difficult.
