Abstract

This research presents the first stage of a work on historical
lexicology of sixteen century Chilean Spanish. Historical Lexicology
comprises beside deliver a word etymon, in addition meanings (both current
and historical), lexical validity from a diasystematic point of view;
first documents and codifications, as well as derivations and examples.
The present work has been developed from a corpus of documents dated
in the initial phase of the Spanish Conquest of Chile. The purposes
of this work are presenting the results by using a lexicographical historical methodology, i.e. a sample of articles, as well as highlighting the relevance
of Historical Lexicology, almost nonexistent in historical studies of
Chilean Spanish.
