In this paper, we study the Diccionario militar portátil, which
the infantry's lieutenant colonel José Fernández Mancheño published in 1822. Its importance lies in being the first Spanish military dictionary
outside the limits of translation, in addition to being set at the time of the
conclusive consolidation of this special lexicographical modality. After
describing its structure, we focus on the metalexicographical analysis of
the prologue, which Fernández Mancheño titled «Discurso Preliminar».
In the same way, we detail the lexical units that make up its macrostructure,
with particular attention to the similarities or differences that may
exist in that respect with the Raimundo Sanz's Diccionario militar (1749),
its main model. Finally, we indicate some matters about voices' lemmatization.
