Abstract

The Football Regulation published by the «Asociación
Clubs Foot-ball» of Barcelona in 1902 was the first football regulation
published in Spain and appeared in a historical context in which there
was a linguistic discussion, from Antonio Viada (1902) to Federico Caro
(1919), related to the opportunity whether to hispanicize or not sport
anglicisms which were gradually reaching Spanish language.
This first «official» football lexicon in Spanish was mostly characterized
by Spanish terms (55%), while the rest was mostly made of foreign
words, fact that can be explained due to the football novelties imported
from England.
The main goal of this study is to collect and then incorporate terms
into a documental database that will become the basis of the Diccionario
Histórico de Términos del Fútbol (Historical Dictionary of Football Terms)
(DHTF). That's why we present data about the presence of terms in
Spanish dictionaries (only 25.8% documented) and its representation in
the Corpus diacrónico del español of the Real Academia Española
(46.3% collected), what shows the novelty of the data presented.
