A notarial protocol from the year 1660, belonging to the
municipal notary’s office in Oñati (GI), documents the delivery of tools
from the forge/ironworks in Zubillaga. From this inventory, the terms
of greatest interest are studied here, in some cases owing to the absence
of documentation and information about them (aldabarra, barquinera, boga,
garaballo, limela) and, in others, due to them having unregistered meanings (chinela, escamela). As well as using dictionaries and corpus, the studies on
forges which were consulted help to identify tools and to explain graphic
variations (sello, bogal, gabilla, porrica), Basque words (siguillu, betarri, garrango,
suarea) and the presence of words of non-Castilian development in
the inventory (tajador, tallader).
