Abstract

This paper analyzes the Campano ilustrado. Diccionario
castellano enciclopédico redacted by P. Manuel González de la Rosa (1891),
based on the Diccionario general abreviado published by Lorenzo Campano
(1876), although with significant changes such as the introduction of illustrations in a portable dictionary of the Spanish language. Content
and modifications to its source are analyzed, and the various issues that
have been identified are listed. Of these there are two significant due to
the changes made inside one of them, 1906, by the space that is given to
the encyclopedic content to be profusely illustrated, but is not affected in
a major way its content, and the other from 1923, revised and updated
by Miguel de Toro y Gisbert, practically redrafted , which survived until
the mid-twentieth century.
