The RAE has had a central role since its founding in the
history of the Spanish language in two aspects; as an agent in its normalization and unity within its variety, while the advances in the history of the language have marked the guidelines of its work and its documentary needs. In this way, a basic vehicle has been its library, that has fed academic and lexicographical documents of the RAE for its work and these have enriched with their needs and suggestions the increase of their funds. The article describes its most valuable funds and the process that has
led to its selection for digitization, as well as the digitization plans initiated in 2013 to date, to constitute a digital library that preserves them and that is a useful tool for the historians of the language in the context of the digital humanities, for researchers in general and also for the global user of the Internet.
