This article analyses the influence that the formal relation of words has on diachronic labelling and defends that in addition to a word’s current use or frequency of use, the formal relation of certain words with others also affects this labelling. Different morphological groups in Spanish dictionaries based on that of the Spanish Royal Academy
were taken by way of example and examined, not so much to see whether the falling into disuse of a word obliges others in the lexical family to have the same fate, as to determine whether words labelled diachronically and morphologically related have the same labelling, and whether this lexical relation conditions the labelling.
