La influencia de Columela en el Libro de Agricultura (1513-1539) de Gabriel Alonso de Herrera

Abstract

The aim of this study is to assess the influence exerted on Alonso de Herrera by Columella, one of the scriptores rei rusticae. To carry out our research, we have systematically located the direct quotations from the Latin author Columella, both in the text and in the marginal notes of the first six editions of the Libro de Agricultura revised by Alonso de Herrera, in order to delimit his dependence on the Hispano-Roman treatise writer, particularly in subjects that are consistent across ancient geoponic treatises and whose common contents were transmitted over the centuries.
