This article studies the sources of Enrique Oliver’s Prontuario del idioma (1905), which became one of the first dictionaries of doubts and difficulties in Spanish (Moreno, 2023). The analysis and comparison of his articles reveals his debt to the Gramática (1890) of the Real Academia Española, the Sinónimos castellanos (1890) by Roque Barcia, and other repertoires that compiled common errors, Gallicisms, and lexical improprieties widely used at the time. Among them, Oliver’s own Guía de bufete (1891) stands out; it anticipated some of the contents of the Prontuario.
