The purpose of this paper is to analyse the origin and evolution
of nouns ending in -ada in the history of the Spanish language. In
my view a historical perspective is crucial to the study of word formation
and the results obtained, because it means focusing research on certain
types of information over others. In this context, I think it is essential to consider some linguistic questions regarding the speakers: their mental
organisation of the Lexicon, Lexical acquisition, degree of knowledge
and their usage of words. At the same time, it is necessary to take into
account the tools used in Diachronic linguistics. I believe that the best
way to currently give a general vision of different word-formation processes
is to pay special attention to the data attested in text corpora and
its frequency of use.
