Aproximación a la configuración léxica del español en el suroeste de los Estados Unidos (1733-1900)

Abstract

In spite of the interest aroused on it from a synchronic point of view and its historical complexity, the Spanish of the South-western United States has not yet been sufficiently studied at diachronic level. On the basis of documents from Corpus Diacrónico del Español de Norteamérica (CORDINA), this paper aims at providing some data on the lexicon used in the current states of California, Arizona, New Mexico and Texas between 1733 and 1900, and, more specifically, on all those elements that can be regarded as Americanisms, in order to offer a first description of the lexical configuration of the Spanish that was spoken in that area during the period concerned.
