The De Propietatibus Rerum, from Bartolomé Anglico, one
the most famous medieval latin encyclopedia, has two independent
Spanish versions. This paper aims to analyze the book XVI from
both versions, whose theme are stones and minerals. Of particular
interest is the way in which both translators adapted the Latin
terms to Spanish, which finally disappeared. In our study, we focus on the comparison of the different terms used in both versions and
on their trajectory along dictionaries and other treaties. On the
other hand, we looked at the description of these minerals through
the history of the Spanish language in order to observe the evolution
of both their acceptions and the scientific and technical knowledge
that accompanies them.
