Consideraciones al proceso de fijación del romance en la escritura (siglos X al XIII)

Abstract

Some of the manifestations in Hispanic romance languages
that emerge in the Latin script from the 10th and 12th centuries do not
seem to respond to unconscious interferences of orality, but, rather, to
voluntary acts of the scribe; this implies the development of an early
linguistic consciousness as well as an initial process of standardization of the vernacular languages. Both processes are rooted in the Hispano-
Gothic tradition and both advance weakly, but without interruption, up
to culminate in absolutely romance texts at the end of the 12th century.
Towards 1050, the attempts of fixing the romance writing converge with
the reform and standardization of the Latin in Castilla. The intersection
of the two trends will give rise to different degrees of mixture of Latin
and romance in the texts until the mid-twelfth century.
