With the aim of making a critical edition of the Biscayan
historical administrative legal texts (Ordenamientos Jurídicos Vizcainos), we
will in this collaboration try to rebuild an essential data on its basic
fundamentals, guided by what tells the oldest manuscript preserved in the Foral archives of the Lordship of Biscay (Archivo Foral del Señorío de
Bizkaia)
Thus, since we work with a research group of medievalists interested in
knowing the actual contents of these laws and the modes of its written
transmission, as a first approach I intend to present here initial
observations and first steps in my study of this body of law (corpus
jurídico), to try to establish the final or closer to (lost) original text, and
the relationship between their copies and transfers. We anticipate that we
managed to locate certain number of copies –unfortunately late in excess–
unknown so far, but that might result essential to study and organize the
manuscript tradition of the Law of Biscay (Fuero de Bizkaia).
